The Yellow Umbrella

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This term we are learning about the pursuit of happiness. This week we have watched a short film about empathy and we had to write a little bit about what happened in the film. Empathy is about feeling for others and puting yourself in others shoes. At the end the girl was really empathetic for the boy after he told her his story. Our goal was : use a range of written features to engage the audience, use simple and compound sentences with a variety of beginnings, lengths and structures, use some complex sentences to create pace, flow and interest & ensure that most writing is grammatically correct.

This is my writing:

One early drizzly morning, the door to Miss Elem’s Home for Children opened slowly. She walked in thinking that she didn’t want to be there, but then she saw a place to put her bright yellow umbrella. Trying not to be seen, Jimmy quickly whipped his head around the corner so he was hidden away. Standing away from everyone, the girl observed the exciting scene as the kids dug through the books looking for hidden treasures. The girl smiled cheerfully as she watched the little girl play with the doll like it was a real friend. The girl's cheerful smile vanished as she saw that her umbrella was no longer where she put it.

What makes you happy?
