Eel's / Tuna

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This week we went for an exciting trip to Margret Mahy and Victoria square for our PBL. We had 4 rotations we went on the waka on the avon river, looked at the Moari mats around Margret Mahy and feed the eel's/tuna, then we went to victoria square and looked at the pou and statues and looked at moari designs at the Margret Mahy playground.

This week for reading we made a poster about eel's we had to list 8 facts to show our understanding. our goal was to Draw on and articulate a variety of strategies to assist comprehension and use knowledge from text to combine with new idea (own and others) to come up with new thinking.

This is my poster:

Do you know anything about Eel's?

My PBL reflection

This term, our Project Based Learning (PBL) started with the teachers putting us into groups. In these groups we had to work collaboratively to create Jolly Jars for the school fair.  This task helped us to begin exploring our PBL question for the term - How can we build community through our actions? We had to research ideas, be creative with our product, experiment with our materials and write instructions that could be followed by others.
Here is a link to my instructions.

I learnt that instructions need to be checked and i need a prototype

Reflection on PBL:
For our Jolly Jar my group did door hangers. This is how we did it: we put beads, hanger templates, pom poms and coloured paper in the jar.

I contributed to my group by making the instructions, reading through and fixing the mistakes and encouraged my group.

Our Jolly Jar was creative because it was original and you can be creative

What I learned about working with others was it’s good to work with new people because you learn how to work with people who you don’t usually work with.

How did we build community through our actions? We raised money for the bike track.
Do you think this would help you?

Goal; My goal was
Keep running for the whole race.
I prepared myself for Cross Country by:
Doing laps of the back field and at home I practiced around the house.
How did I encourage myself to keep going?
I said keep going I said to others we can do this and I said never give up.
What did I do well today?

Orana park!

Orana park!!!!
For school we went to orana park.
When we got there we had morning tea.
After morning tea we walked to see the first animal
we saw the meerkats they were so cute.

Then we went for a little walk to get to the giraffes.
We went up some stairs and got a brunch with leaves on
it. Then we sat down and learnt about them
then we got up and feed the giraffes.

Then we saw the rhinos they were walking around.
Then we held a rhinos horn it was pretty heavy.
I learnt that people kill rhinos for the horn as a use of
medicine.

Then we went to see the less we saw two keas.
One kea was looking at its shadow in the net above
the trees. the other was sitting there staring at us.

Then we went to the tigers. He was roaring because
some people that work there were round the back
of the cage roaring.

SPCA speech!

last term for pbl we looked at the question how can we use our voice to make a change. so we had endangered animals, pet care, SPCA and native animals I was buddy's with ellonor. Ellenor @ St Francis of Assisi

Hey do you love animals,  well I do.
However there are  people who don’t look after them properly and
then dump them on the side of the road well the SPCA
comes and picks them up and then they grooms them.
The SPCA's mission is to stop animal cruelty

Have you heard about the great work the SPCA does.
The SPCA started in England way back in the 19th century
The SPCA helps protect approximitl 45,300 animals every year.
They help protect animals who are sick, injured, lost or simply abandoned.

The SPCA only receives 1% of its funding from the Government
so they need your help.

So what can you do?
You can help by donating.
The things they need are
. cans of food
.money
.blankets, beds and old clean towels

So why don't you get your friends together and do some fundraising for the

SPCA
