My Hobby!

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This term we have been learning about happiness. For reading we were writing a story about our hobbies and why it makes us happy. I chose my favourite sport netball. This is my work:

I play netball because it makes me happy. It keeps me fit and healthy.

I also like it because it makes me a part of a team, not just any kind of

team, a group of friends who are always there for eachother. I also like

it because its fun learning new skills and motions.

It makes me feel happy because it gives me a chance to leave the real

world and let me do what I love. When I'm out on the court my mind is

set on working the ball down the court to get it to the hoop. When I'm

out on the court it feels like everything is amazing and nothing can go

wrong, it keeps me away from reality.

Being a part of a team makes me feel like I have a big group of friends

who are always there for me when I need them. Whether it's on the

court or when we are at school or even when we are at training they

are there for me no matter what. That's why I love netball and my team.

What are your hobbies? What makes you happy?

The Yellow Umbrella

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This term we are learning about the pursuit of happiness. This week we have watched a short film about empathy and we had to write a little bit about what happened in the film. Empathy is about feeling for others and puting yourself in others shoes. At the end the girl was really empathetic for the boy after he told her his story. Our goal was : use a range of written features to engage the audience, use simple and compound sentences with a variety of beginnings, lengths and structures, use some complex sentences to create pace, flow and interest & ensure that most writing is grammatically correct.

This is my writing:

One early drizzly morning, the door to Miss Elem’s Home for Children opened slowly. She walked in thinking that she didn’t want to be there, but then she saw a place to put her bright yellow umbrella. Trying not to be seen, Jimmy quickly whipped his head around the corner so he was hidden away. Standing away from everyone, the girl observed the exciting scene as the kids dug through the books looking for hidden treasures. The girl smiled cheerfully as she watched the little girl play with the doll like it was a real friend. The girl's cheerful smile vanished as she saw that her umbrella was no longer where she put it.

What makes you happy?

Trip Recount!!

On the 20th of may we went on a trip to town. First we got off the bus at Margret Mahy playground and found out where we needed to go. There was Margaret Mahy the waka on Avon, we fed the eel’s and looked at the traditional moari mats and went to Victoria square.

Victoria square

My group's first stop was Victoria square. When we got there we got to explore. I saw a pou, statues and a fountain. There were 2 statues, Queen Victoria and Captain Cook. I learned that Captain Cook was the first man from England to come to New Zealand.

Margret Mahy

The next stop was Margret Mahy playground. We went for a scavenger hunt around the playground to find moari designs and animals. I learnt that Margret Mahy’s quotes from her books are around the playground.

Mats and eel’s

The 3rd stop was by the Avon river. My group met up with the teacher and we went for a walk to the first mat by Victoria square. After we had gone to all the traditional mats we went down to feed the eels in the Avon. We feed the eel with a spoon. I accidentally dropped the food on the eel’s head. I learned that there are 13 mats around Christchurch.

Waka

The last stop, the waka we got buddy and we got told our instructions. We all grabbed an oar and learned how to move it properly. Then the girls got into one of the wakas one partner at a time. We took off while the boys were still practising. We all got a little bit wet, but we all had a great time.
